We look for the following issues when assessing a kitchen hardware issue:
-
Damage or wear on the hinges and handles.
We determine whether the issue can be fixed with a simple repair or if replacement is necessary.
-
Restaurants & Foodservice
Quick-turn repairs and maintenance to keep high-volume kitchens running smoothly.
-
Hinge Pin Issues
Hinges often have removable pins that hold the two halves of the hinge together. If the pins are loose, we carefully tap them back into place using a hammer and a wooden block. If the pins are damaged or worn out, we replace them with new ones.
-
Loose Handles
Over time, handles can become loose, making it difficult to open or close the door properly. We check the mounting screws on the handle and tighten them using a screwdriver. If the screws are stripped or damaged, replace them with new ones.
-
Loose Screws
Many times it’s just a matter of tightening the screws on the hinge plates or door frames. If the screws are stripped or damaged, we replace them with new ones of the appropriate size and length. We only use screws designed specifically for commercial kitchen doors, as they are more durable and can withstand heavy use.
-
Shim Adjustment
In some cases, the hinge plate might be recessed or not properly aligned with the door frame, causing the hinge to be loose. To address this, we can use thin shims made of metal or plastic. We insert the shims between the hinge plate and the door frame to provide additional support and eliminate any gaps. We’re careful not to over-tighten the screws, as it can put stress on the hinges.
-
Broken or Cracked Handles
Handles may break or develop cracks due to the constant use and potential impact from heavy equipment or traffic. If the handle is damaged beyond repair, it will need to be replaced. We remove the broken handle by unscrewing it from the door and replacing it with a manufacturer-approved handle.
-
Sticking Handles
Handles may become sticky or difficult to turn due to grease, grime, or debris buildup. We clean the handle and the surrounding area using a mild detergent or degreaser. We ensure that the handle and the latch mechanism are free of dirt and lubricate them with a silicone-based lubricant or a dry lubricant suitable for commercial kitchen use.
-
Misaligned Handles
If the handle does not align properly with the latch or strike plate, it may require adjustment. We check the alignment of the latch and strike plate and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the handle operates smoothly. This may involve loosening the screws on the strike plate, repositioning it, and tightening the screws back in place.
-
Damaged Latch or Strike Plate
If the handle is not engaging or releasing the latch properly, the issue may lie with the latch or strike plate. We inspect these components for any damage or misalignment. If they are damaged beyond repair, we replace them with new ones to ensure the proper functioning of the door handle.
