Tips From The Door Handle & Door Hinge Experts!

• Did you know that the oil in your door closer can be affected by weather changes? Our specially trained technicians know when to replace and when to repair. If you have a door that is slamming closed it may be that hot weather has changed the viscosity of the oil in the closer. There’s no need to replace that closer. There are two screws in each end of the closer. Adjusting those screws can reset the door until the weather changes.

• Screws in a closer are labeled “S” and “L”. The “S” (sweep speed) screw is the first 90% of the door closing sweep. The “L” (latch speed) screw controls the last 10% of the closer. Adjust those screws with an Allen wrench screwdriverto control the speed of the door.

• Some doors have a Backcheck Valve that affects the end of the door’s opening cycle. We recommend checking the oil in this valve to be certain nothing is leaking, or that the oil is not over-filled.

• Doors in industrial buildings open out instead of in so they are susceptible to weather. Ball bearing hinges help but to work properly these doors need high-tech hydraulic closers.

• For those heavy-duty establishments with high traffic, you need grade 1 door control products proven to withstand abuse. They should be tested to open properly millions of times without fail.

• ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requires the use of a push button, hands-free device, remote fob, or even RF sensors, to trigger a low-energy operator to open a door.

• For maximum germ protection, we recommend a wave-to-open switch door that opens when hand gestures are made within a few inches of the switch. This allows occupants to freely travel through spaces without coming into contact with door handles.
